                              Story:

The exploitation of wind energy sources is necessary for the European Union to meet its environmental and energy policy goals and to secure its energy supply.
Being based on floating structures instead of fixed foundations, floating offshore wind opens the door to larger offshore areas with higher wind potential.
FLOATECH is a Horizon 2020 project aiming to develop advanced technologies and design tools which will enable to increase the level of maturity and the cost competitiveness of floating offshore wind.
                              FLOATECH has 5 main objectives:
Get a better insight on the physical aerodynamics and hydrodynamics phenomena taking place in a floating turbine.
Model and reduce the uncertainties in the design process through a simulation approach.
Explore new technological concepts and techniques by high-computing resources and dedicated experiments.
Increase the future market value of offshore wind energy.
Reduce the Levelized cost of energy (LCOE) by 15% in comparison to present average values.
This will be achieved by the following:
The development of the QBlade-Ocean open-source tool performing simulations of floating offshore wind turbines with unseen aerodynamic and hydrodynamic fidelity.
The development of two innovative technologies for turbines and floaters, combining wave prediction and anticipation of induced platform motions.
This is expected to improve the design of the turbine and to increase its efficiency.
This will lead to the advancement of research in the fields of offshore simulation and controlling technology and will stimulate further European research and development activities in both academia and industry.

This creation is already more like a modern animation
