Story

The animation request is to show with the application of a new tool (ultrasound based imaging) a pedicle screw can be inserted into a vertebral body safely, with 1 shot, and optimally (example without invading the spinal canal during spine surgery). The technique is patented. Most spine surgeries require insertion of pedicle screws on both sides of the vertebral body specifically on a number of spine levels (thoracic, lumbar) Depending on the skill of the surgeon complexity of the surgery , a number of x-ray exposures are done to help the surgeon insert the screws optimally. The procedure can be costly, time consuming and hazardous to a surgeon who perform a number of surgeries per day.

There are other tools based on 3d navigation where only 2 shots (lateral, Anterior) are needed however these are exceptionally expensive and for most surgeons of the world inaccessible. The proposed procedure is relatively much affordable, safe, repeatable, occupies a small space in the surgical room, does not disrupt the surgical procedure on which surgeons are trained and gives any spine surgeon more confidence when inserting a pedicle screw especially in Cervial and thoracic levels of the spine.

It is made of 3 steps:

Step 1: Optimal path is determined and locked using the ultrasound based tool.

Step2: Perforation is performed according to the predetermined (locked) path. The perforation is done only to create enough path for a screw to be placed.

Step 3: Pedicle screw is inserted.
